What We Are About
Who We Are
"The Spirit of the Sovereign LORD is upon me, for the LORD has anointed me to bring good news to the poor. He has sent me to comfort the brokenhearted and to proclaim that captives will be released and prisoners will be freed." Isaiah 61:1
It might be culture shock to come from stained glass and soft pews of a "brick and mortar"church to the open air of an alley church with concrete benches but this is the place the Lord has selected for us serve Him. And we do..........unashamed!
Unlike many churches that wish to attract your contributions by offering superior religious goods and services, The Church in the Alley is led by the Spirit, striving to meet the physical and spiritual needs of the many homeless and hungry by providing meals, shelter, worship, and encouragement through the Word. Not only do we help each other, we consider each other to be brothers and sisters, whom we love with a genuine and unconditional love, as Christ loved us. We are together FAMILY.....................
Yes, many of us at The Church in the Alley are suffering from the consequences of life choices, abuse and "circumstance". Most of us would not be welcome in a traditional church, but then, Christ Himself was homeless and in poverty by all the standards set by the Pharisees.
Behind the scenes we offer to help each other to meet needs as our physical resources permit and the unlimited power that God provides. In public view, we sing and make a joyful noise while sharing God's word and Christ's love....boundless worshiping and teaching the Word with NO apologies!
The Lord put us all together for this! And it is His direction we seek and follow, even though it seems very unorthodox in world view and opinion.....SO BE IT!
